Oak Grove Farms: How it all started

Told by the owners: Kyndle Erhard and Zach Erhard

In 2012, Zach had a dream of starting his own produce business with his brother, Josh. In the beginning, it was a struggle. They had long days working hard to get this business started from the ground up. Being first generation farmers, it comes with a lot of trying, learning, failing, and trying again. Zach had his first successful produce season in 2012. But it didn’t stop there. He had a dream of making this business big; he was a very driven 18 year old.

Zach grew up in the city of Gallatin, TN where he sold out of small tents on the side of the road. In 2016, fate stepped in and Zach met me (Kyndle) and boy did I have a lot to learn. When I met Zach, I was still in college at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. I was studying Child and Family Studies, and while I (kinda) enjoyed being outside, I knew nothing about farming.

After we met, I continued to ask Zach questions, we went to farmers markets together, and eventually I just caught on. We got married on the farm in 2018 in front of our pond, and we had our reception in our greenhouse. It was the most perfect night.

Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty.

How It’s Going & Plans for the Future

The Lord has blessed us in many ways in the past couple of years. Oak Grove Farms has grown into something so much bigger than we could have ever dreamed, and we are excited for everything else the Lord has in store.

Since 2012, we have been at 4 different locations, and have finally settled down at a commercial lot in Gallatin, Tennessee. We have purchased 2.5 acres and we have big plans for the future. We are living on our 71 acre farm that we do not currently have open to the public. As we continue to head into our future, we couldn’t be more excited about the new relationships we will build along with the memories we will make. We are looking forward to the future, and we hope to see you all at the market!
