Oak Grove Farms is a Middle Tennessee-based fruit and vegetable farm that was started in 2012 by Zach Erhard in the small community of Oak Grove in Portland, Tennessee. Zach has enjoyed growing things since he began in middle school working together with a close friend who had a successful produce farm. Over the years, the passion grew and with his entrepreneurial spirit, he decided to start his own farm with his brother, Josh.
In 2014 Zach bought a small 10-acre farm in Bethpage, Tennessee. As a beginning farmer, there were many lessons learned, and still are to this day. As he gained more knowledge and a larger customer base, Zach began expanding the farm once again to meet its potential. When Josh got married in late 2015 and chose to pursue his own career in engineering, Zach decided to continue developing his passion for what he knew best.
In August 2016, Zach made another leap of faith and purchased a 71-acre farm just 5 miles away from the smaller one. This farm was different; there was a farmhouse on the property and plenty of room to grow (literally) in the coming years. It was perfect.
Someone once told me "if you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got." That person (a mentor of mine and fellow farmer), really made an impact on my life in many ways, but especially in my career. I have had a lot of help to get where I am today and I couldn't be more appreciative of the people that God placed in my life along the way.
The main focus at Oak Grove Farms is to provide local, fresh, naturally grown, and great-tasting produce that provides a healthy alternative to our customers. As well as providing high-quality food our goal is to take care of the land and all that it provides for us. Our homegrown produce may be found at our roadside stand in Gallatin, as well as at local farmer's markets throughout Middle Tennessee.
We also offer a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program to our valued customers. To learn more about CSA please click here.
The Farmer: Zach Erhard
As a 23-year old business graduate from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, I decided to pursue a career in agriculture, which I am passionate about. I have known for several years that this was the career path for me. I enjoy the hard work and dedication it takes to succeed in farming. I also enjoy seeing the fruits of our labor literally on a daily basis and this profession allows me to see God's creation on an intimate level each and every day. I could not ask for a more rewarding, enjoyable job. I love everything about it from growing to making the sale to researching new innovations and taking action on them. I believe the young farmer is needed in our society and I am honored to fulfill that role as owner at Oak Grove Farms. There are many working parts to this business and without the support of my family, friends, customers, and all those who work with me, nothing of what I have today would be possible.
